That is always the reaction whenever we mention we drove to and from Mérida, Mexico for 4 years from Toronto Canada. That meant driving south through the United States to Brownsville, Texas, crossing the border to Matamoros, Tamaulipos. From there we followed a southerly route to the Yucatán Peninsula and the wonderful city of Mérida.
Four months later we retraced that route when we headed back to Toronto.
My husband drove our 1995 standard shift Sunfire through rain, shine, mudslides, floods, and unexpected police tolls to reach our destination.
I knew someday, when I found the time, I would write about that drive. Only it wouldn’t be us taking the trip. It would be the main character in my novel.
